Georgia Department of Corrections Director of Public Affairs Contact: Office of Public Affairs (404) 656-9772 STATE OF GEORGIA For Immediate Release Brandon Rhode to be executed Monday, September 27, 2010Atlanta – The Supreme Court of Georgia granted a stay of execution for inmate Brandon Rhode until Monday, September 27, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. Jones County Superior Court ordered the Department to carry out the execution on a date between September 21 and September 28, 2010. Commissioner Brian Owens has set the date for September 27, 2010 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson at 7:00 p.m. Rhode was sentenced to death in 2000 for a triple murder. If executed, he will be the 25th inmate put to death by lethal injection in Georgia. Media interested in a picture of Rhode and a listing of his crimes may go to the Department of Corrections website (www.dcor.state.ga.us). The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers.
