Thursday, September 23, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Atlanta -The Jones County Superior Court ordered the Department to carry

out the execution of Brandon Rhode on a date between September 21 and

September 28, 2010. To allow completion of pending litigation,

Commissioner Brian Owens has changed the time of the execution from 9:00

a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on September 24, 2010. It will take place at the

Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. 

Rhode was sentenced to death in 2000 for a triple murder.  If executed,

he will be the 25th inmate put to death by lethal injection in Georgia.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the

United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state

prisoners and over 150,000 probationers.  It is the largest law

enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
