MISSION
VISION
Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty educates, advocates, and engages communities with the goal of ending the death penalty in Georgia.
GFADP envisions a Georgia without the death penalty - a state where justice is no longer defined by violence, but by dignity, accountability, and a shared commitment to humanity, and where responses to harm center healing, redemption, and responsibility.
ABOUT
Founded in 1990, GfADP was initially established to challenge the death penalty in Georgia, which had been reintroduced after the Supreme Court's Furman v. Georgia decision.
Today, GfADP is actively involved in advocacy, education and support for individuals on death row, as well as their families. Over time, the focus expanded to include broader issues relating to criminal justice reform—from racial disparities in sentencing to community-based solutions that increase safety.
ADVOCACY & LEGISLATION
GfADP actively participates in legislative efforts to reform and eventually end the death penalty in Georgia. This is accomplished by raising awareness about issues surrounding the death penalty, lobbying for changes in state laws and supporting individuals facing death sentences.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
GfADP provides support and resources to individuals on death row, their families and others impacted by the criminal legal system. The organization serves as an information hub for advocacy, counseling, and assistance with legal and other needs.
EDUCATION & OUTREACH
GfADP provides educational resources to inform the public about the death penalty, its impacts and alternative approaches to justice. This is accomplished through organized vigils, high-profile events, and initiatives that raise awareness and encourage activism.
PARTNERSHIPS
To amplify GfADP's message and achieve its goals, we partner with a variety of faith-based organizations and communities, justice reform organizations and advocates.
