STOP the Execution of Stacey Humphreys
Many legal observers, advocates and faith leaders have expressed serious concerns about the fairness of his sentencing. The jury in his case deadlocked 11–1 for life without parole. Under Georgia law, that should have ended the sentencing. Instead, deliberations were pushed forward until a death sentence was returned.
No court has held that the trial was fair — they held they weren't permitted to look, because a rule of evidence bars juror testimony about deliberations. Justices Sotomayor, Kagan and Jackson dissented from the Supreme Court's denial of review, calling it "extreme juror misconduct."
For now, no further action is needed.
